Laser treatment

For a few years I have wanted a cover up of my existing tattoo (which is a piece by Futura from Unkle's never neverland album cover).
I wasn't happy with what the original tattooist did and basically it doesn't do justice to Futura's art.

So, I started to look for ideas for coverups, but as the original piece is quite large and all black I thought it was gonna be difficult. After making a few enquiries, I was told that the best solution would be to undergo a few sessions of laser treatment to lighten the tattoo enough to get it covered over.

Apparently multiple sessions are required, depending on tattoo size, location and colours used etc but luckily as mine is all black, this is the best colour to get rid of. Also it will probably take close to 8 months before I can get my cover up (which I still haven't decided - but it wont be a Futura one!!)as you have to wait between 4-6 weeks between sessions and then a furtehr 6 months from your last session before you can get the cover up completed.

I had my first session on saturday and I wasn't particularly looking forwards to it that much as I googled the procedure and checked out footage on youtube prior to my appointment at triplesix tattoo studio in Sunderland.

I must say that the pain was bearable. Not as intense as I had thought but the downside to my appointment was that the laser wasn't firing correctly so I couldn't complete the session. ;(

I was cheking out youtube where growing men were screaming in pain and that did put me off. The web did state you could get cream to numb the area or have a local anasthetic, but that wasn't an option at triplesix.

I would describe the pain as a cross between a group of people all firing an elastic band at your arm at the same time and the feeling you get when you are cooking bacon and the fat spits out on your arm. Not too nice but I reckon worth it in the long run.

Basquiat

One of my favourite artists.
Jean Michel Basquiat has been regarded as the first African American painter to become an international art star. He gained popularity first as a graffiti artist in New York City, and then as a successful 1980s-era Neo-expressionist artist, who has collaborated with the likes of Andy Warhol.
